Nita is the mother of 4 beautiful children. The youngest (DeAndre) is on the Autism spectrum. He is also who inspired her to create a community made just for parents and caregivers caring for a loved one on the autism spectrum.

“The vision was clear. Parents and caregivers need an outlet and support. I believe that self-care and a healthy mental are very essential to caring for our loved ones. We do them no good if we aren’t good. Every now and then you just have to leave them at home and get out and just breathe. Not only that, we need to know that there are others out there who “just get it” – the good, the bad and the ugly of autism. This is what this community is based around. We also welcome those who just want to learn about autism. Awareness is important”

Dr. Hernando Flowers helps advance the mission of supporting and empowering parents, caregivers, and families affected by autism. An award winning Human Resources, Workforce Developement, and Community Engagement professional, he leverges his expertise in leadership, strategic planning, and community partnerships to strengthen the organization’s impact and sustainability. Dr. Flowers is also a Field Grade Officer in the U.S. Army Reserve, bringing a deep commitment to service, advocacy, and community empowerment to every role he serves.

Dr. Mercedes Harvey-Flowers brings her experience as an educator, community leader, and advocate to building meaningful connections with families and community partners. She is passionate about creating inclusive, welcoming experiences that strenthen community, celebrate families, and connect people with resources and support.
